Second person was shot the night man was gunned down at Rolling Ridge Apartments

A second person was shot at Rolling Ridge Apartments on Tuesday, the same night that 27-year-old Quamiek Malik Aziz was shot and killed at the complex located off Kathwood Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said Thursday.

After Aziz was transported the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police were notified that that 22-year-old Deundre Trymane Moses showed up at the hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to police Public Information Officer Lt. Shaun Barnett.

“Investigators are still working to determine how he arrived at the hospital,” Barnett said. “We do know that he was not transported by EMS. Mr. Moses has not been charged and is being treated as a victim of a shooting."

Moses’ injuries were related to Aziz’s homicide, according to police.

Aziz was shot at about 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Officers were in the area for an unrelated matter when they heard two gunshots, and during a search they located Aziz lying on the floor of a building’s breezeway and suffering from a gunshot wound.

When asked if Moses and Aziz might have shot each other, or were both shot by a third party, Barnett said, “Investigators are still working to determine Moses' involvement, if any.”

Aziz was no stranger to violence, according to court records. Last December, he was paroled from prison after serving time for offenses committed during a 2014 home invasion on Buckingham Terrace. At the time of his death, he was still on probation for that incident.

A condition of his parole was he could not associate with gang members, specifically the NBA (Never Broke Again) street gang.

Prior to being convicted for the home invasion, Aziz served seven months of a two-year sentence from a conviction in Athens-Clarke County stemming from a 2012 shooting incident on Hollow Ridge Drive.

He had also been indicted in 2012 on aggravated assault charges for allegedly shooting at an occupied vehicle, but those charges were dismissed as part of an agreement in which he pleaded guilty to reckless conduct and other charges for the Hollow Ridge Drive shooting incident, according to court records.

Police announced that a Crime Stoppers cash reward was being offered for information leading concerning the Rolling Ridge shootings.
