It all begins in the home.

Absentee or indifferent parenting leads to the problems "we" are having.

If parents can't or won't communicate the difference between right and wrong then you end up with individuals who follow the path of least resistance.

Fathers not in the home? Blame that great racist, the 36th President of the USA, Lyndon Johnson. His great society formed the family issues we have today.

The idea that the "village" will solve the issue makes for a good sound-byte; but if the village condones, supports, or does not care about the gang behavior then guess what? The gang will continue to grow.

I'm glad that ACCGov & CCSD are communicating...

There are some key people and entities missing from this discussion:

Athens-Clarke County Police Department

Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement

Board of Education

Boys & Girls Club (awarded funding from local government)

Classic City School (if not already included)

DA's Office

Department of Juvenile Justice

Department of Public Health & CDC funded PREVAYL program (Preventing Violence Affecting Young Lives) https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/youthviolence/prevayl.html

Georgia Conflict Center

Juvenile Court Judge

Sheriff's Department

Solicitor's Office

University of Georgia

I know I am missing some. Please feel free to add to the list of organizations/departments that you know are currently addressing this directly or who would be good partners/sources of information.

Please do not respond with meanspirited comments. Sincerely,

Christine…
