Athens house destroyed by early Easter morning fire

Fire destroyed a house in Athens early Sunday morning.

According to Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services, crews responded to the blaze on Field Avenue at 5:12 a.m., arriving to find the attic fully engulfed in flames.

No one was home at the time, ACCFES said, and the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the residents who were unable to return to their home.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
