Athens man clings to life after being found in street with gunshot wound in neck

By Joe Johnson

An Athens man was critically injured when he was shot on Monday.

Police said that 32-year-old Joshua Lamar Scott of Calvin Street was found just before 4:30 p.m. by passersby as he was lying in the roadway in the 200 block of Hawthorne Extension, with a gunshot wound in the neck.

He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

When asked questions, Lt. Shaun Barnett said that the Athens Clarke County Police Department would not go beyond releasing what information that was given in a brief news release.

“In an effort to not compromise the ongoing investigation, details...are not being released at this time,” said Barnett, who is ACCPD’s public information officer,

Police asked anyone who has information about this case to contact Detective Hovie Lister at 762-400-7333 or hovie.lister@accgov.com.
