An Athens man was recently arrested for a home invasion in which he was shot and seriously wounded by the victim nearly a year ago.
Javon Ishmail Fisher, 22, was taken into police custody on July 12, upon being discharged from the hospital where he had been since the day of the incident, Aug. 27, 2002.
He was charged with first-degree home invasion, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery.
According to police, the incident was reported by the victim, 30-year-old Bruce Duane Beard, who called 911 to report that he had been shot in the chest during an exchange of gunfire with Fisher, who had been shot multiple times.
A police report suggests that the incident was related to drugs, as it notes that a large quantity of marijuana and paraphernalia were located inside the victim’s house on Winterberry Lane.
Beard was in the hospital for less than a month for what police said were ”moderate” injuries.
Fisher is being detained at the county jail without bail being granted.

Wow, a whole year in the hospital. I bet the total bill was well over $10,000,000. Javon does not look as though he could, or will, send me a thank you note.
You are welcome Javon. I look forward to reading about more of your exploits.
Wait! Beard was a drug dealer apparently. Where is he today? I gotta know. Please don't tell me he went home from the hospital?
