Athens police investigate Bethel Midtown Village shooting

Athens-Clarke County police Sunday night said they were investigating a shooting incident earlier in the evening at the Bethel Midtown Village apartments.

Officers responded to the complex located off College Avenue at about 6:43 p.m.on reports of gunshots being fired there, according to police Public Information Officer Geof Gilland.

"A male was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wound(s)," Gilland stated in a 9:13 p.m. email.

Police would not confirm reports from a source at Bethel that two shooters were possibly involved.

"t's still an active investigation," Deputy Police Chief Jeff Clark said.

Classic City News will update this story as more information becomes available.

The shooting was the 28th aggravated assault this year at the apartment complex, according to ACCPD statistics.
