Athens police seek help IDing person of interest in gas station shooting

By Joe Johnson

Detectives need the public's assistance in identifying a man they'd like to speak with in connection with a shooting that happened two months ago at an eastside gas station.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, the shooting occurred early the morning of Dec. 31 in the parking lot of Marathon, 1590 Lexington Road.

A 22-year-old woman was shot when an argument escalated to violence, police said.

One or more people in a group of combatants fired guns during the incident, police said.

"The initial investigation indicates an argument in the parking lot escalated into an individual or individualds discharging a gun which led to the victim receiving their injury," said ACCPD spokesman Geof Gilland.

"After reviewing video surveillance of the incident, Detectives are asking the public for assistance in identifying the individual shown in the photos, he said, adding that "detectives know this individual was present and has important information regarding the incident, and speaking to this person would provide a clear understanding of what occurred. "

Police asked for anyone who recognizes the black male in the surveillance photos to contact Detective Harrison at (762) 400-7361.
