Gunman steals cash, pistol in Athens home invasion

By Joe Johnson

Cash and a gun reportedly were stolen during a home invasion armed robbery this week at a student apartment complex in south Athens.

According to an Athens Clarke County police report, officers responded to a report of the home invasion at the park at Athens Lakeside apartments on Lakeside Drive at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival, they met with a 19-year-old victim who said $6,000 cash and a Glock semiautomatic pistol valued at $650 was stolen from him., but he refused to cooperate with the investigation despite saying he knew who the suspect was, according to the report.

A roommate, also 19, said he was in his room, on the phone and playing a game when the suspect busted into the room, holding the other resident in a chokehold and pointing a gun at him and yelling to get off the phone and onto the floor, according to the police report.

Officers took a phone as evidence because it might have information that could identify suspects, the report noted.

Wasn’t a random act of unkindness. Perp was after the cash. Perp knows the source of the cash I would think..This one is easy math

Why call the police if you are not going to let them do their job?
