By Joe Johnson

A home in the 1300 block of Spring Valley Road was targeted by gunfire early Sunday morning, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

No one was injured.

The incident was reported by a 41-year-old resident who said she heard gunshots in the early morning hours but did not discover that bullets had struck her home and one of her vehicles until daylight.

Neighbors reportedly told police they heard as many as eight gunshots between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Officers found that one bullet entered the side of the residence and exited through the rear. Another projectile struck the corner of a window and then travelled upwards, possibly into the attic, according to the report.

A bullet also struck a door of the resident’s vehicle, according to the report, and another passed through the front quarter panel of the vehicle and punctured a tire.

The report noted that the woman’s two teenage sons in 2019 had been under house arrest, for reasons not disclosed in the report, and “she stated that she does not know if either son is in a gang.”

The sons were not home at the time of the incident, police said.
