The following letter was released today by interim Clarke County Schools Superintendent Xernona Thomas:
Based on the decreased COVID-19 numbers in Athens-Clarke County, the Clarke County School District believes it is in our students’ best interest to return in person to provide the highest level of academic and social support.
In-person instruction will begin Monday, November 9, 2020, for pre-K students at the Office of Early Learning and all students in grades Pre-K - 8. High School students will remain virtual, with a return date to be determined.
Students returning for in-person instruction will attend school Monday-Friday. After-school programs will not be available. Students in Pre-K - 8 will have a virtual option for families who wish to continue learning from home.
We are confident in the safety procedures and guidelines in place to ensure a safe learning environment. Using guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Public Health, Department of Early Care and Learning, and the Georgia Department of Education, the district has implemented safety measures including:
∙ the evaluation and increased maintenance of HVAC systems;
∙ enhanced cleaning procedures;
∙ social distancing expectations;
∙ visual safety reminders;
∙ limited student transitions;
∙ PPE for staff/students;
∙ mandatory mask requirements;
∙ staffing full-time nurses in each school to monitor COVID-19 protocols.
∙ Student registration will be conducted through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. ∙ Please register your student(s) for their desired instructional model (virtual or in-person) by Sunday, October 18. If you do not select an instructional model, your student will be registered for in-person instruction.
∙ The instructional model you select will remain in place through the remainder of this semester (January 15, 2021).
∙ When selecting your student’s instructional model, please indicate if your student will require bus transportation.
How to Register
1. To register the instructional model preference for your student(s), you need to login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
2. Guided instructions are available on the main page under “District Announcements.” 3. If you have not created a Parent Portal account or need to reset your Parent Portal account password, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for further assistance.
