An Athens woman was stabbed early Tuesday during a domestic violence incident at her home on Acadia Drive, Athens-Clarke County police said

The suspect, 32-year-old Mario Jermaine Richardson, was paroled from prison just four months ago, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Officers responded to at 12:55 a.m. to investigate a reported assault at the residence, and upon arrival they found a 26-year-old resident suffering from a stab wound to the upper back, according to police.

Witnesses told officers that the victim had been stabbed with a knife by Richardson, who also lived at the residence, police said.

Richardson was located at a nearby home on Deer Creek Drive, where police said he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and providing false information to police.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, police said.

The state DOC placed a hold on the release of Richardson, who was paroled in September from Autry State prison, where he served time for convictions in Richmond County on charges of terroristic threats and acts.
