An upset customer recently hurled racial epithets at an employee at an eastside fast food restaurant and then tried to run down the employee in the parking lot, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

The incident reportedly occurred Saturday afternoon at Hardee’s on Lexington Road.

According to the report, a white male between 50 and 60 years old pulled up to the restaurant’s drive-thru window in a black Nissan SUV and ordered a chocolate milkshake.

When the 16-year-old Black employee informed him that the business was out of stock for the milkshake ingredients, the customer “began making racial slurs such as ‘don’t give me that black shit, I’ll shove it up your black ass,’” according to the report.

The teenage employee told police that she “then went outside the business and when she left the sidewalk into the parking lot, this vehicle began to drive towards her, almost striking her,” according to the report.

The employee snapped pictures of the SUV, which fled the scene.  The photos were distributed to officers who unsuccessfully searched for the vehicle, the report noted. Hardee’s night manager, who witnessed the incident, said he would get footage from the camera that monitors the drive-thru for the police investigation.

The police report titled the incident an aggravated assault.
