The body found outside of an Athens medical clinic Monday afternoon was identified as that of Tonia Sue Penn, a 54-year-old homeless person, Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson said.
Penn’s body was found on the porch of Prince Avenue Primary Care by employees there, Wilson said.
There were no obvious signs of physical trauma to the body, Wilson said, and the cause of the woman’s death probably won’t be known for months after an autopsy is performed Tuesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab.
Wilson said that the body was identified fairly quickly because Penn was known by employees at the Prince Avenue clinic and also by police.
The coroner released the woman’s identity after tracking down family members in Walton County for notification of Penn’s death.
