A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was arrested this week by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for a recent incident in which he allegedly illegally entered someone’s home while on duty.

Zachary Billings, 35, of Jefferson was charged with criminal trespass and violation of office and fired by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office

According to the GBI, they received a request by the JCSO to investigate an incident that occurred on Sunday in which Billings reportedly entered a home off Lakeview Terrace in Jefferson. The state law enforcement agency did not give a reason for Billings entering the residence.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum’s only comment was:

“We received a formal complaint from a property owner of the deputy entering his property. After checking into the complaint, the GBI was called to investigate. At the conclusion of their investigation, warrants were taken by the GBI, and the deputy turned himself in to the jail, and terminated at that time.”

The GBI said that when their investigation is completed the case file will be given to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for review.
