Man injured in third Athens shooting in four days, suspect in custody

An Athens woman was arrested Tuesday night after police said she shot a man during an apparent domestic violence incident in the eastside neighborhood of Martin CouI rtheastside neighborhood of Martin Court

The 31-year-old male victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his ankle, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

The suspect, 27-year-old Dekescia Jashay Faust of Coleridge Court, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies.

She was being detained Wednesday at the county jail without being granted bail.

The incident marked the third time that someone was shot within four days since the weekend.

In the first, a woman suffered a foot injury by a bullet that was shot into her home o Coleridge Court in the Athens Gardens apartment complex at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, and a 32-year-old man suffered what was described as non-life-threatening injuries when shot shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday on Thumpa Avenue in the Clarke Gardens complex.

ACCPD Public Information Officer Lt. Jody Thompson said investigators did not believe the woman had been specifically targeted.

"The incidents were not related." he said. "The Thumpa Avenue (incident) had several different witness accounts of what actually occurred. It is still unclear what actually caused the shooting.
