A Gwinnett County man this week reportedly was seriously injured while disarming a woman at an Athens house party.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police incident report, witnesses said that Jocelyn Marie Melvin was attending the party at a home on Kentucky Drive Tuesday night where she became very intoxicated and left to get a large knife because she thought her boyfriend was cheating on her.

A 23-year-old Alpharetta man who was at the party said he saw Melvin walking toward the home “in an aggressive manner with a kitchen knife,” according to the report, but he confronted Melvin before she could get inside and hurt anyone.

When the man tried to disarm Melvin, the woman allegedly tried to stab him in the throat, and when he blocked her the knife cut the bridge of his nose, according to the report. The knife's blade sliced through the victim’s hand when he grabbed the weapon, the report noted.

Someone drove the victim to the hospital, where he met with police, who described the hand injury as “serious.”

Eastside police units took Melvin into custody and charged the 21-year-old Acworth woman with aggravated assault.

She was booked into the county jail and was subsequently released upon posting a $1,000 good security bond.
