Man shot at west Athens apartment complex

By Joe Johnson

Athens-Clarke County police reportedly were investigating the New Year’s Eve shooting of a man at a westside apartment complex.

According to a police report, officers responded at about 9 p.m. Friday to the Rocksprings Homes complex off Baxter and South Rocksprings streets on a report that a 20-year-old resident had been shot.

The victim told officers that he was walking home from the store when he took a short-cut through the gate on the Baxter Street side, and upon reaching 224 Rocksprings Court a white, newer-model Chevrolet Impala pulled up, stopped under a camera, and someone inside the car began shooting at him, according to the report.

Though police reported recovering 18 9mm bullets from the scene, the victim was struck just once in the leg, receiving a non-life-threatening injury.

He ran to the back door of his home, telling his mother that he’d been shot, according to the police report.

One round was found to have gone through a community center door at the complex, the report noted.

Police asked for anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Paul Johnson at 762-400-7060 or paul.johnson@accgov.com.

The DA is already working on the shooter's defense in case the police are able to catch and arrest them.

Replying to

Unfortunately it was the progressive liberal mob that voted them in last time and they’ll vote them in again! And once again this county will get the government it deserve.
