Athens-Clarke County police said late Thursday afternoon that they were notified that morning that there had been was a possible “weapon threat” at Hilsman Middle School.
The Clarke County School District “received information that an unidentified student had a weapon on school grounds” the day before, on Wednesday.
“In conjunction with the CCSD, ACCPD provided additional security at the school this morning,” police said in a news release.
“ACCPD investigated the claim and found no validity to the report of a weapon on school grounds. No charges were filed,” the news release stated.
“ACCPD and the CCSD take the security of school children and employees seriously and encourage families to discuss the dangers of weapons in schools,” the police stated in their release. “Please remind your children to report any weapons or threats to an adult immediately.”
