A woman's body was found Tuesday morning in a wooded area in northwest Athens-Clarke County.
Police are not releasing much information, except that the discovery was made during an ongoing investigation.
A police report indicates that officers were in the area of Maple Forge Drive and Lavender Road when the body was discovered.
That area had previously been searched during a follow-up to the ongoing investigation, the report noted.
"The body will be sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and to identify the deceased, police Lt. Shaun Barnett said. "Until that time, we are not ruling anything out, including foul-play."
Barnett would not disclose the nature of the investigation that was being followed up on that led to the body's discovery .
"No additional information is being released at this time," he said.
This is our neighborhood and it’s been wild seeing all of the activity. Praying for the family of the victim. 🙏
