Police officers Thursday night swarmed a neighborhood near the Georgia Square mall on a resident's report of a burglary with the suspect still inside a home.
However, after a dozen or more police units arrived and the home on Laurel Springs Drive was spotlighted and surrounded by officers, it was discovered that the situation had been created by a heavily impaired man with mental health issues who entered the home of his elderly parents despite having been barred.
The man eventually came out and police said he was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and criminal damage to property.
