A student was recently arrested at Clarke County High School when he was found to be in possession of a loaded gun.
Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Shaun Barnett said the incident happened on Feb. 13, when school district police contacted ACCPD to report a student possibly being in possession of a firearm.
"The ACCPD officer and CCSD officer made contact with the student and located a handgun," said Barnett, ACCPD's public information officer."With the handgun was a magazine with 11 rounds of ammunition."
At the direction of the state Department of Juvenile Justice, police detained the 16-year-old boy and turned him over to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office, Barnett said.
Don’t hold your breath.
Hopefully the boy's parents and the Department of Juvenile Justice can intervene and turn the tide on this dangerous situation.
