By Joe Johnson

A hospitalized Athens teen remained under police guard on Tuesday, a day after he allegedly shot and wounded a young woman the day before at the Parkview Homes apartment complex.

The shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Weir Circle within the complex located between West Broad and Baxter streets, according to ACCPD's public information officer Lt. Shaun Barnett.

The victim, 19-year-old Alysses Williams of Athens was transported to the hospital with serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds, he said.

“During the course of this investigation, officers learned that a 17-year-old male also arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound,” according to a Tuesday morning ACCPD news release. “It was determined that this male received his injury as a result of this incident. Detectives have identified the 17-year-old male as a suspect in this incident.”

The suspect was identified as Carlos Cochran, 17, also of Athens. He has been charged with aggravated assault and additional charges may be forthcoming, according to Barnett.

“Cochran is a suspect of intentionally shooting the victim,” Barnett said. “Investigators are still working to determine how he received his injury.”

The investigation is ongoing and police asked for anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Scott Black at (762) 400-7058 or scott.black@accgov.com.
