A police officer recently helped a University of Georgia student to safely get home after finding the student walking drunk in downtown Athens.

Athens-Clarke County police Officer First Class Torie Teets reported that she was on patrol shortly before 2 a.m. Friday when a young woman wearing a white dress jaywalked in front of

in front of her patrol car on College Avenue.

The jaywalker, a 19-year-old UGA student, “was highly under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and could not keep her balance,” officer noted in her report of the incident.

Teets reported that she found the teen was in possession of a fake ID, which she confiscated and destroyed before issuing citations for underage drinking, pedestrian under the influence, and jaywalking.

“I advised (the student) to order an Uber in lieu of going to jail, and I assisted her in this process,” the officer wrote in her report.

The student had an address at a sorority house on South Milledge Avenue.
