Ciné to present silent film 'The Wishing Ring' with live musical accompaniment


Ciné n Sept. 26 will present an exclusive showing of the 1914 silent film “The Wishing Ring” with live accompaniment by Mauro Ronca performing his original piano score.

A beautiful romantic drama and period piece starring Vivian Martin, the film tells the story of a young girl who comes into possession of a ring which she believes has magical powers that will change the course of her entire life. It is the oldest surviving film of Maurice Tourneur.

The evening begins at 5:15 p.m. with an introduction by Richard Neupert, Charles H. Wheatley Professor of the Arts with the University of Georgia's Department of Theatre and Film Studies. A reception with light snacks and cash bar immediately follows the screening and includes speaker Tom Kenyon, a friend and guardian of Ms. Martin, who will share insights into the actress' life and career.

Ciné is a nonprofit cinema and event space, located at 234 W. Hancock Ave.

Tickets are $30 and going fast for what is expected to be a sold-out performance.
