A former prosecutor this afternoon will be on the steps of the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse to announce his hopes of returning there as the next district attorney for the Western Judicial Circuit.
Kalki Yalamanchili had worked for six years in the courthouse on East Washington Street as an assistant district attorney and left to hang his own shingle as a downtown Athens private practice attorney after the current DA, Deborah Gonzalez, was elected in December 2020.
He will be officially kicking off his campaign at 5:30 p.m. with a speech to be followed by questions from the media.
In addition to his stint as ADA, Yalamanchili had been an assistant solicitor general for the Cobb Judicial Circuit, handling all aspects of prosecution in Cobb County State Court.
He currently is an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, is president elect of the Athens Rotary Club, is immediate past president of the Western Circuit Bar Association, and serves on the board of ACC SANE, Inc., the Athens-Clarke County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program.
Yalamanchili's law firm, Y’Chili Law, specializes in criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation.
The 38-year-old attorney lives in Oconee County with his wife Caitlin and sons Asher, 6, and James, 4
Does he still need signatures to get on the ballot? Where can I sign?
Done. You got my vote
I was just saying to someone yesterday, “I will vote for KY before I will vote for Deborah Gonzales.”
