Science fact of the day: Caracals have multiple scent glands

Caracals have scent glands between their toes and on their faces.

They use scent to communicate — for example, caracals may use scent to mark their territory (often while scratching at a tree with their claws), to keep other caracals away, or to indicate a willingness to breed.
