Athens boy, 13, flown to Atlanta hospital after being shot

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

By Joe Johnson

A 13-year-old boy reportedly was shot Saturday afternoon in a home in eastside Athens.

The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. in a home on Essex Court off of Cedar Shoals Drive, according to Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Jerry Saulters.

Officers were told in the initial investigation that the Hilsman Middle School student was accidentally shot by another juvenile who gained access to a gun in the home, he said, but the matter continued to be looked into.

The police chief said the boy initially was taken to a local hospital before he was transported by helicopter to the children's hospital in Atlanta.

In a Sunday morning media release, police said the boy had been seriously injured.

LOL! these are gang members shooting everybody not homeless people... The "housing crisis" has nothing to do with it.

The city went to isht when people like Mariah Parker decided we needed rap representation in our music scene, attracting the violent criminals that make up the majority rappers and people who listen to rap music. When the commission eliminated cash bail. When they hired a radical leftist DA who started going easy on criminals... Athens went to isht when leftists created an environment ideal for criminals.

We absolutely can arrest and prosecute our way out of this. You can't blame the massive spike in shootings on poverty, that is ufcking ridiculous.

It was an "educated guess" because the vast majority of shootings like this are gang related drive by's. The fact that two gang members had just shot each other the day before made it even more likely that it was gang related retaliatory shooting. I had every logical and rational reason to assume it was gang related.

What exactly did I write that is racist?

Those that defend DA Gonzales by saying she’s something to do with over 50 gangsta’s arrested need only look at the fact of this POS Nelson that got smoked at Citco and that he was one of the scum arrested in Dec 2021 by the gang task force yet WHY was he out on the street to kill again?!

We've been through this before Kathy. FOR THE THIRD TIME...

Neo-nazi's and proud boys are not criminal organizations and neither kills people. They are not "Gangs". They are political organizations/people with offensive opinions and have a right to their beliefs and to peaceably assemble no matter how offensive their beliefs are. They are protected by the first amendment.

"Gangs" are criminal organizations that regularly use wanton violence (Murder, robbery, assault, etc...) to maintain control of territory or simply as a punishment for something someone says on social media. Nothing they do is protected under any amendment of the constitution.

one example is offensive because of their ideas/opinions, the other example kills thousands of people every year, injures tens of thousands…
