Barrow County deputies shoot man who reportedly opened fire on them

Barrow County deputies Sunday night shot a man who reportedly opened fire on them when they responded to a domestic disturbance violence at his home.

The incident happened in the Thorn Brook subdivision in the town of Bethlehem, according to Sheriff Jud Smith, who said that deputies shot 60-year-old Robert Reynolds, Sr.

He said that when deputies knocked on the door of Reynolds's home no one answered, but Reynolds came out from the garage and shot at the deputies, who returned fire.

Smith said that three deputies fired their guns during the incident. Reynols was transported in unknown condition to the hospital.

Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and were questioning residents of the neighborhood that is located south of Ga. 316 off of Christmas Avenue.

As is standard practice with shootings by law enforcement agencies, the GBI is conducting an investigation that is independent of the sheriff's office.
