Columbia Brookside shooting incident results in two arrests

Deanthony Smith

Gunshots being fired at a westside housing complex Wednesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of an armed convicted felon and a female companion.

Officers responded to the Brookside Columbia public housing complex on a report that two males and at least one female were “shooting a huge pistol” on the back porch of 1612 Summerbrook Circle, police said.

The responding officers made contact with the three individuals on the porch, one of whom was identified by police as Deanthony Smith, 21, of 1601 Summerbrook Circle who had active felony arrest warrants on file, according to police.

When taken into custody and patted down, police said that Smith was found in possession of a handgun and a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.

The second male was not charged, but Osheika Samone Moore, 26, who had the same address as Smith, was arrested for initially misidentifying to officers.

Moore said she lied about her name because she though she had a bond condition to stay away from the apartment where the shooting occurred. Officers learned that the bond condition was no longer active, but the arrested her for giving a false name to law enforcement officers.

Smith was charged with reckless conduct, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm on the property of another, and possession of a drug-related object, police said.
