‘Suspicious’ death of 8-year-old girl in Bethlehem under investigation

The Gwinnett County Police Department said the suspicious death was reported on Vine Springs Trace in Bethlehem and involved an 8-year-old child.

Police late Tuesday afternoon were investigating the death of an 8-year-old girl at a residence in Bethlehem that they are describing as “suspicious.”

Police said the death happened on Vine Springs Trace in a neighborhood of Bethlehem that lies on the Gwinnett County side of the border with neighboring Barrow County.

Gwinnett County police said that the child was home with an adult woman when she had a medical emergency that was reported at 2:16 p.m.

The woman called the girl’s father who came home to find her unresponsive and began doing CPR.. and when police EMS arrived the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding officers determined that the girl’s death may not have been natural and called homicide investigators to the home to determine what happened.

Details on what made her death suspicious have not been released and the girl has not been identified.

Police said that the cause of the child's death as being investigated by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office .
