An occupied home reportedly was struck by a bullet over the weekend when gunfire erupted in a west Athens neighborhood.
No injuries were reported during the incident that occurred in an area located around Tallassee Road and Westchester Drive.
According to a police report, officers responded shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday to 202 Chalfont Lane where a 51-year-old woman said she heard about a dozen gunshots, and that a bullet came through a window in her home.
The bullet struck a screw in a wall, stopping it from traveling any further in the home, the report noted.
A neighbor told police that after hearing the shots they saw a young black male wearing a ski mask running away toward the Lake Drive neighborhood, according to the report.
A man who was picking up a homeless woman told police that he heard “pops” and saw tree branches “dancing” as he and the woman walked in a wood line to his vehicle, according to the report.
The report indicated that nine 9mm shell casings were recovered from the ground next to 186 Chalfont Lane.
A reason for the gunfire was unknown.

Like a zoo. More and more like Atlanta every day. Keep pumping aid dollars in there and it will get worse and worse.
That area was a cesspool back in 1994 and it’s even MORE of a cesspool, NOW!
Like a swamp that is a breeding ground for disease carrying bloodsucking mosquitoes, that area is a breeding ground for gangbangers, drug dealers, pimps, hookers, food stamp cheats, can collectors, pick pockets, meth cooks, smelly perverts, high school dropouts, ex-cons and welfare moms and up & coming wannabe thugs.
