An Athens woman was reportedly arrested at a Super Bowl party Sunday evening for allegedly threatening to kill the party’s host and burn down his house over a bet she lost to him.
Demetricia Alicia Smith, 47, of Coleridge Court was charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, officers responded to a house on Biscayne Drive on a report that a female tried to stab a male at that location.
Several witnesses who were at the house for a Super Bowl party told officers that Smith lost a bet on the football game to the party’s host, a 50-year-old resident.
“Smith was unhappy about losing and demanded (the victim) pay her the $2,400 rather than her pay him.” according to the police report.
After the victim refused to pay, Smith reportedly got a knife from the kitchen and made such threats as “I will kill you” and “I will burn this house down with everyone in it,” according to the report.
All of the party's attendees confirmed were interviewed separately by officers, and their stories matched, according to the report, which also noted that there were four juveniles present “who stated that they were scared when everything happened.”
Smith on Tuesday morning continued to be held at the Clarke County Jail without bail being set.
