A Jackson County man was arrested this week for allegedly pistol-whipping another man during a melee three months ago at a Jefferson Road shopping center, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The incident occurred the afternoon of May 12, according to police.

“There were two groups involved in an altercation at the Homewood Hills shopping center,” police spokeswoman Shashi Charles said.

“The fighting escalated and one individual ended up pistol whipping another,” she said. “The groups left when Patrol officers got there.”

One of the combatants drove himself to the hospital, where was treated for injuries to the head from being pistol-whipped, according to a police incident report.

The 21-year-old victim from Maysville named as his attacker Alan Del Angel Osorio, 20, of Nicholson.

Authorities took Osorio into custody Wednesday afternoon on a felony aggravated assault warrant, according to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.

He was being held without bail at the county jail late Friday morning.
