An Athens-Clarke County Magistrate Court judge has declined to set bail for the man accused of killing a student this week in a recreational area of the University of Georgia campus,
Jose Alberto Ibarra will now remain incarcerated st the Clarke County Jail pending his indictment in Superior Court.
Ibarra was arrested Friday on murder and other charges related to the death of 22-year-old Laken Riley, a student who he allegedly attacked as she ran on a trail near UGA intramural fields off College Station Road.
Ibarra lived in an apartment complex located near both the recreational area and the neighborhood where Riley lived.
The nursing student had been fatally bludgeoned, according to police, who said the attack had been a "crime of opportunity."
