Science fact of the day: Enceladus helps supply Saturn’s E ring

Icy water particles and gas continuously erupt from the surface of Saturn’s moon, Enceladus.

The material forms a huge halo of fine ice dust around the moon. A small fraction of this material ends up in the planet’s impressive E ring, while the rest falls back to Enceladus’s surface and contributes to its notably bright white appearance.
