Barrow Co. Schools Superintendent McMichael Receives Prestigious 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award

Georgia Updates

The University of Georgia's Mary Frances Early College of Education has awarded Barrow County Schools Superintendent Dr. Chris McMichael the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Practitioner Award. The award recognizes UGA alumni who have made significant contributions in their field.

McMichael's achievements include developing the Barrow BOLD brand and philosophy, increasing graduation rates, and establishing arts and sciences programs and schools. These programs include the Arts and Innovation Magnet Program, the Center for Innovative Teaching, and the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy.

The Barrow County Chamber of Commerce in 2021 named the school district as the Large Business of the Year under McMichael's leadership. The award acknowledges his contributions to education and the local community.

Several employees from the school district supported McMichael's nomination for the award. One letter stated the superintendent's ambition, intelligence, and achievements made him a deserving recipient, aligning him with previous award recipients.

McMichael is to receive his award at a ceremony in April.

This recognition reflects his commitment to improving education in Barrow County and beyond.
