A 50-year-old wheelchair-bound Athens man suffered minor injuries Friday night when he was struck by a car at an eastside intersection.
According to police, Jarvis Crowe was at North Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway when he was struck by a Buick Park Avenue being driven by 60-year-old Mike Anthony Scott of Dunlap Road in Winterville, who left the scene.
Police said that Crowe, who is paralyzed from the waist down, was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of superficial injuries.
Witnesses provided police with descriptions of the car and driver, and Scott was arrested later that night at his place of employment, the Pilgrim’s Pride poultry plant on Barber Street.
He was charged with hit and run and open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and was released from custody upon posting bonds totaling $1,311.
