Bling Your Prom 2024: call for donated formal wear for local teens

Bling Your Prom, an annual formalwear drive dedicated to making local teens’ dreams a reality, is now accepting donations.

Each year in the spring, the Athens-Clarke County Library’s Teen Services Department invites local teens to pick out, try on, and take home free complete prom ensembles. This has included formalwear, shoes, accessories and new cosmetics. In years past, over 150 teens have taken home an outfit for their prom.

Bling Your Prom empowers local teens to save money on an extravagant outfit they may only wear once, but also allows them to practice sustainable shopping, giving new life to formalwear that many donors may have just sitting in storage.

The library is providing this resource to local teens once more for the 2024 prom season, and urges individuals and businesses alike to consider contributing to Bling Your Prom 2024 in order to make a marked difference in the lives of our local youth.

Items that they are especially seeking out include:

● Men’s and Women’s Formalwear

● Jewelry and Accessories

● Men’s and Women’s Formal Shoes

● New (unused) Cosmetics and Hair Products

● Service/Store Coupons

● Paper Shopping Bags

Donations will be accepted until February 29, 2024.

Bling Your Prom is an opportunity for local teens to obtain a complete prom ensemble at absolutely no cost. For more information, call the library at 706-613-3650, ext. 323 or 329 or email Elizabeth Hood at ehood@athenslibrary.org or ya@athenslibrary.org for more information.
