Dead squirrel left at door of Athens woman after noise complaint

An apparent grisly message was left at the door of a woman after she made a noise complaint early Monday morning at the Bethel Midtown Village apartment complex, according to Athens-Clarke County police.

A 44-year-old resident called police at 12:38 a.m. and said that earlier that night she complained to a complex security guard about noise coming from a neighboring apartment.

About an hour after making the complaint, the woman said that someone knocked on her door and left a dead squirrel, according to police.

The woman did not know who the person was, and could only describe them as “an unknown individual” who was wearing a plain white T-shirt, police said.

The security guard who addressed the noise complaint told police he thought the dead squirrel might have been related to the complaint.

The guard and an officer checked the woman's vehicle for damage but found none, according to police.
