An Athens man is facing incest and assault charges that stemmed from an incident that was reported last month.

On the afternoon of Nov. 16, Athens-Clarke County police took a report at their Lexington Road headquarters about a woman having been “jumped” at the Pinewoods Estates North mobile home park off U.S. Highway 29 North.

According to police, a subsequent investigation led to warrants being issues for the arrest of 22-year-old Jafari Milton Williams of Daisy Drive on two counts each of incest and aggravated assault.

“Since that investigation, the suspect has evaded capture until yesterday when he was apprehended after a foot chase,” police Public Information Officer Geof Gilland said Tuesday.

After his capture, Williams was served with several probation violation warrants that stemmed from convictions on charges of robbery, burglary, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and entering an automobile with the intent to commit theft.

Gwinnett County authorities placed a hold on Williams’ release from custody for an unrelated matter.
