Man and woman beaten, tasered and pepper sprayed in west Athens home invasion

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a home invasion armed robbery that reportedly occurred this week in a westside neighborhood.

At about 3:47 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a home on Quail Run Drive, in a neighborhood located between Whitehead and Lavender roads on a report of a home invasion that was actively occurring, according to a police incident report.

Upon arrival, the officers met with two residents, a 25-year-old female and a 19-year-old male whose eyes were very red and swollen from having been pepper-sprayed, according to the report.

The victims said they had also been beaten with a blunt object, shocked with a taser multiple times had had a gun held to their heads by three or four masked intruders dressed all in black who burst into their bedroom and attacked them, according to the report.

After the intruders left the bedroom, the couple locked themselves in a bathroom and called 911.

Officers observed that the home had been ransacked and badly damaged, and the victims said that belongings valued at over $10,000 had been stolen, including three white gold and diamond teeth grills, two iPhones, air pods and cash.

The victims, whose arms upper legs and torso were bruised and swollen, were treated at the scene by National EMS personnel.

A dog that escaped through a rear gate that had been opened was found in the neighborhood by police.
