An Athens man has been arrested in connection with a rape that allegedly occurred last week at a homeless camp, Athens-Clarke County police said.

An investigation into the alleged assault began on Friday, a day after the incident allegedly occurred at a camp located off College Station Road, said Lt. Shaun Barnett, ACCPD's public information officer.

The probe led to a rape warrant being issued for 20-year-old Stephen Dalton Sims, who was taken into custody Monday morning. He was booked into the Clarke County Jail with an address in Suwanee, but Barnett said the suspect was living in Athens at the time of the alleged assault.

Sims was being held without bail being set.
