A Walton County man was arrested in downtown Athens Saturday night after he allegedly threatened a woman with a knife.

According to Athens-Clarke County police Lt. Shaun Barnett, a 28-year-old woman stated that the suspect was walking in close proximity to her on the sidewalk on East Washington Street.

The woman reported that that when she asked the suspect to go around her “the suspect pulled out a pocket knife and presented it to the victim,” Barnett said. “The suspect held the handle while presenting the blade to the victim at which point the victim felt threatened and called 911.”

Barnett said the victim was able to provide a description of the suspect and knife, and that another person witnessed the incident.

“Officers responded and were able to locate the suspect standing in a line awaiting entry into a bar,” Barnett said. “The suspect was still in possession of the knife that was described by the victim and witness.

The suspect was identified as Jason Lanier Hall, 28, of Rivermist Drive in Monroe.

He was charged with aggravated assault and booked into the county jail at 11:32 p.m., and released Sunday afternoon upon posting a $1,000 good security bond
