Police investigating east Athens home invasion

By Joe Johnson

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a home invasion that reportedly occurred last week in an eastside neighborhood.

According to a police incident report, a 61-year-old Spring Lake Drive woman said while walking on her street at about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, she passed a teenage male to whom she said hello.

Upon returning home, the woman was checking her mailbox she noticed the same male was standing at the corner of Spring Lake Drive and Spring Lake Court in the neighborhood that is located off Cedar Shoals Drive.

According to the report, the woman smiled and waved at the teen again and told him to have a good night. After the male acknowledged her, the woman headed toward her residence.

The woman “stated once inside her screened door she began to reach for her front door. At that time she heard a loud noise and fell to the ground and dropped the glass of water she was carrying," according to the report.

“The woman stated that once she turned around she saw the unknown male had jumped through her screen door,” and the intruder ran off toward the Spring Lake Drive cul-de-sac after the woman screamed.

The report did not indicate if the woman had been injured or if the intruder stole anything.

The suspect was described as a black male between 15 and 18 years old who wore dark colored shorts that had bright orange streamers hanging from both sides, the report noted.
