Two people were killed Wednesday when their airplane crashed in Oconee County.
"NTSB and FAA will be arriving tomorrow morning to do their investigation. Until then we are just securing the scene and recovering what we can," Sheriff James Hale said.
According to the sheriff’s office, the plane went down shortly after 3 p.m. in a field off of Government Station Road near Watkinsville.
The aircraft was said to have been enroute to Winder from Florida when air traffic controllers lost sight of it on radar.
If you live in the area of Stonebridge Parkway and Latham Drive and find any debris that may be connected to the plane crash, officials are urging you not to move it, and to call the Oconee County Georgia Sheriff’s Office at 706-769-5665.
I live in the area where the crash occurred but found no debris to report. I wonder who was involved in the accident.
In an odd coincidence, I was watching flight radar of this region at the time of the crash. I thought I witnessed another plane (a small jet) collide with the Cessna and then divert to Athens from its scheduled itinerary.
