A 20-year-old University of Georgia student was nearly hit by a bullet that reportedly was fired during an apparent road rage incident on the Athens Perimeter.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police report, the incident happened at about 6 p.m. Monday the student was traveling on the bypass toward her exit at Danielsville Road and North Abenue.

During a rolling altercation, the driver of one vehicle fired a gun at another vehicle, but missed and instead shot the driver's side of the student's car, with the bullet lodging in the center console, according to the police report.

The report indicates that the gunman was a white male with blond hair and wearing a tan hat and plaid shirt.

He drove a Ford Explorer that displayed a Madison County tag, the report noted.
