Arrest made for Athens man’s murder in Jackson County

An arrest has been made for the murder of 29-year-old Antwone Shalmar Lay of Athens who was shot to death Friday in the parking lot of a church in Jackson County.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on Monday that they arrested 31-year-old William Austin of Jefferson on charges of murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

Lay reportedly had been been picked up in a vehicle in the Nellie B neighborhood of Athens and driven to Antioch United Methodist Church Road in Nicholson where he was gunned down.
