Athens-Clarke County Courthouse to reopen after treatment for bedbug infestation

Writer: Classic City NewsClassic City News

The Athens-Clarke County Courthouse is set to resume normal operations on Monday, after being closed last week to be treated for bedbugs.

Officials announced on Friday that treatment for the vermin in the East Washington Street courthouse had been completed on all five floors.

The building had been closed on an emergency judicial order by Western Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Lisa Lott on July 22.

Treatment began after county officials were made aware of a possible infestation in areas of the building and they had a pest control company conduct a full assessment.

While bedbugs were only found in areas on three levels, treatment involved closing and treating the entire facility.

The source of the critters remains unknown.
