Preparedness
Residents should expect extended power outages and tree damage due to ice. Here are a few reminders to keep you and your family safe during the storm:
Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle, and always treat flashing red and non-operational traffic signals as a four-way stop.
If using a generator, use them outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and attached garages.
Be careful to prevent fires. Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from all heat sources including fireplaces, wood stoves, or candles.
Keep refrigerators and freezers closed to maintain temperatures.
Prevent frozen pipes by allowing faucets to drip slowly, which reduces the chances of freezing. For other tips related to water pipes, visit www.accgov.com/winterwatertips.
