Athens high school student suspended after found with weapons and alcohol

A student at Clarke Central High School was suspended last week after she was found in possession of several knives and beer.

After the 16-year-old girl was seen taking an open bottle of beer from her book bag she was taken to the office, where administrators searched the bag and found four multi-blade throwing knives, a pocketknife, razor blade, half a cigarette, and a partially-full bottle of flavored beer.

Police conferred with the Department of Juvenile Justice and a judge about the girl, who is said to have serious mental health issues, and it was decided to release her to her mother pending a school disciplinary hearing.
